Attempts in Producing Chinese-English Bilingual Book of Common Prayer from the 1960s to the 1980s
See The Order for Holy Communion produced by the Diocese of Hong Kong and Macao in 1965 (http://www.ttc.edu.sg/csca/skh/bcp/hc1965.pdf) , and the more substantial effort The Book of Common Prayer (1976, 1983) by the Council of Church in East Asia. This later work, led by Bishop James Pong (Pang Deming) of Taiwan, was a serious attempt in integrating Chinese cultural heritage in the Prayer Book (http://www.ttc.edu.sg/csca/skh/bcp/dongyaben.pdf). It was regretably not adopted for general use after its release.

Guo Feng's Daily Office and Pastor's Handbook
Guo Feng's compilation and translation of liturgical material represents a singular attempt by a present-day ordained Protestant pastor in Shanghai in connecting his Christian life with the liturgical traditions of the universal church. Guo Feng makes use of surviving liturgical books in China and prayer books (mainly Anglican) from outside of China in compiling two works: the Daily Office (meiri songdao [lit. Daily Praise and Prayer]); and the Pastor's Handbook (shizhu liangyou [lit. A Good Friend for Those serving the Lord]. In so doing, Guo in fact inherits the tasks in prayer-book translation that first begun in the early nineteenth century. He stands immediately in continuity with the work of Bishop Shen Yifan that came to a halt in the time of drastic changes from the 1950s to the end of the 1970s. Guo's translation of key phrases in the liturgy are important in shaping theological concepts in the present-day Chinese Church.
I am grateful to the Rev. Guo Feng for making these two significant works available to the wider church.

Huang Yangying, trans. Jitan Qian [=Before the Altar], with Foreword by Basil Roberts, Bishop of Singapore, 1938
See Jitan Qian.
This short devotional manual Before the Altar, written by Robert Wilson, was translated into Chinese by Rev. Huang Yangying in 1938 at Christ Church, Malacca. Bishop Basil Robert commendation of this work in his Foreword was revealing of the ethos and priorities in the Diocese of Singapore in the time shortly before the Pacific War. First, the handbook is meant to be part of the wider effort in translating "standard works of theology and devotion in the languages of the 'younger Churches'. Second, the handbook offers "the right approach to [the] solemn and precious mysteries" for Christian people.
See also Huang's history of Anglican work in Fujian, China, Yinshui Siyuan.

Chinese Theological Review Author Index
The Chinese Theological Review, published from 1985, is an indispensable source in understanding the Protestant churches in China in the post 1979 era. The articles reflect the theological engagements taking place within the ecclesiastical structures in the Chinese churches. We owe Janice Wickeri and her team for making key articles and news of the Chinese churches available in English.
